Special Education

Aspen Public Schools is committed to meeting the unique learning needs of every student in alignment with federal and state requirements. We provide support services that promote access, inclusion, and growth across all three campuses.
Committed to Access for All

Supporting Every Student

Aspen Public Schools works to ensure that all students, including those with disabilities, have access to meaningful learning experiences and appropriate educational supports. We follow all guidelines outlined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and collaborate with families to provide a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE). Our goal is to help every student reach their full potential by offering the resources and services they need to succeed. All three Aspen campuses are members of the El Dorado Charter SELPA, a statewide special education consortium that provides technical support, training, and oversight to ensure schools like Aspen meet state and federal compliance standards.

How Special Education Works at Aspen

Aspen provides special education services in accordance with each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Services may include academic accommodations, specialized instruction, behavioral support, or related services depending on individual student needs.

  • Services are based on a student’s assessed needs
  • IEP teams include educators, specialists, and families
  • Placement decisions prioritize the least restrictive environment
  • Collaboration with families is ongoing and essential

If you suspect your child may need additional services, we encourage you to contact your campus Principal to discuss the evaluation and referral process.

Aspen’s Commitment

  • We do not discriminate based on disability status.
  • We do not discourage or deny enrollment to students with disabilities.
  • We believe all students deserve an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
  • We aim to support the whole child, including academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth.
