Health & Wellness

Aspen Public Schools prioritizes the health and well-being of every student. Our efforts support physical, emotional, and mental wellness to help students show up ready to learn and grow.
Healthy Students, Thriving Schools

Caring for the Whole Child

Aspen provides on-campus health support and wellness programming to promote strong minds and healthy bodies. From illness prevention and medication management to social-emotional learning and counseling, our team works closely with families to care for each student. While each campus oversees its own health needs, Aspen Ridge also offers dedicated counseling services for grades 7–12. Together, we create a culture of care and connection across all grade levels.

When to Stay Home

To prevent the spread of illness, students should stay home if they are experiencing:

  • Fever of 100.4°F or higher
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Symptoms of contagious conditions (e.g., pink eye, strep throat, flu)
  • COVID-19 symptoms or recent exposure (per public health guidelines)

Please contact your campus office to report an illness-related absence.

If a Student Becomes Ill at School

If a student becomes ill during the school day, they may be evaluated by trained staff and sent home if necessary. Families will be contacted right away in these cases.

Our team is committed to student safety and will ensure your child is supervised and supported until they are picked up.

First Aid & Emergency Response

Each campus has staff trained in basic first aid, CPR, and emergency procedures. Minor injuries (e.g., scrapes, bumps) are treated on-site, and families are notified as needed. In the event of a serious health concern or emergency, 911 will be called and families will be contacted immediately.

Medication at School

If a student needs to take medication during school hours:

  • A Medication Authorization Form must be completed by a parent/guardian
  • All medication (prescription or over-the-counter) must be in its original labeled container
  • Medication must be stored in the school office unless otherwise documented (e.g., asthma inhalers or EpiPens)

Students are not permitted to self-carry medications unless officially approved.

Chronic Conditions & Health Plans

For students with chronic health needs (e.g., asthma, allergies, diabetes), families should:

  • Submit all required medical forms and action plans
  • Ensure medications or supplies are on-site and up-to-date
  • Notify the school of any changes in diagnosis or care

Reach out to your school’s office for help managing medical accommodations.

Mental & Emotional Well-Being

Aspen’s approach to student wellness includes emotional support and mental health awareness at all grade levels:

  • Leader in Me and Second Step social-emotional curriculum for elementary and middle school
  • Dedicated Counseling Department at Aspen Ridge for students in grades 7–12
  • Individual and small-group support for students navigating challenges
  • Connection to community mental health resources when needed

Students are encouraged to talk to a teacher, counselor, or trusted adult if they need support.

If you or someone you care about is having a mental health crisis, call 988.

Aspen may provide periodic health screenings in compliance with state guidelines, including:

  • Vision and hearing screenings in certain grades
